Charity Golf Week at Coast Mountain Photography!

01-09-2016

With not 1, not 2, but 3 charity golf events on the books this August, we were here there and everywhere helping clients capture the fun and spirit of giving back to the community.

Event #1 – Business in Vancouver / Association for Corporate Growth’s annual golf tournament benefiting St. Paul’s Foundation.  This who’s who of deal making and big business in Vancouver gathered for a day of ‘networking’ – on and off the golf course of course.  University Golf Club hosts this prestigious group of bankers, lawyers, accountants, developers and more for a fun day of being flummoxed by exceptionally fast greens and a great dinner to follow.

Event #2 – YVR for Kids Foundation’s 25th annual ‘YVR Golf for Kids’ Chairty Tournament.

Last Thursday, 144 people teed off at the Quilchena Golf and Country Club in Richmond and 380 attended the dinner and auction at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport, raising an estimated $250,000 for Canuck Place and a dozen other charities, including Dreams Take Flight, Hope Air, Richmond Christmas Fund, Little Wings Daycare and Richmond Therapeutic Equestrian Society.

About $3.8 million has been raised in the last 24 years, with $2.3 million going directly to Canuck Place. Events like this help Canuck Place provide hospice care to kids who are not expected to live past the age of 19. Canuck Place provides support and a temporary home to children and their families throughout B.C. and Yukon.

This year’s theme Silver Linings signifies the special milestone of 25 years of continued success and fundraising.  Special features included a special contortionist group performing, a live band, and fabulous auction items including a Cathay Pacific round trip flight in 1st Class to New York City – a $5000 value.

Event #3 – Tourism Industry Professionals Golf, the 11th edition.

TIP golf has truly become the most impressive golf tournament for the tourism industry in BC.  Hosted by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts at the venerable Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club.  With comedic organizers Phil Barnes (Regional VP, Fairmont Hotels Vancouver area) and James Terry (tourism consultant) keeping the fun flowing, everyone enjoyed golf in the sunshine and fantastic networking.

And of course, we were fundraising for a great cause – a scholarship fund for those studying to join the tourism industry as a career.  Beneficiaries include Vancouver Tourism College, Capilano University, BCIT, Royal Roads University, Vancouver Island University, and more.  Another beneficiary is the Les Clefs d’Or BC region concierge association.  Their volunteer efforts to enhance the event and help with fundraising is always an added bonus, with concierges present from Vancouver Island, Vancouver, Whistler and more.  Jill Crop of CTV News always acts as emcee, and keeps the flow moving forward lest we be late for our après event cocktails at the Mallard Bar !

Special thanks to the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Resort for hosting in high style with incredible food and beverage, and terrific facilities to enjoy.  We’d also like to thank Ty Speer and Michael Drake from Tourism Vancouver and Dave Murphy from Cantrav for making the time to be part of our golf team.

TIP Golf is a classy affair and everyone in the tourism industry should consider supporting this event in future.  For more information check out www.tipgolf.ca
